The Solar Grandmothers
The Project Partners arranged the logistics and assisted the Barefoot College and the government of India select a group of four Aeta women, namely, Evelyn Clemente, Sharon Flores,cita Diaz and Magda Salvador. They have been dubbed as the “Solar Grandmothers”. The former are from Gala, Zambales while the latter hail from Bamban, Tarlac. Their ages are in the range of 40-50 years. They departed for India on 16 September 2014 and returned to the Philippines on 16 March 2015.
Tanging Tanglaw: Turning IP Grandmothers into Solar Engineers
On 20 May 2017, Her Excellency Amanda Gorely, Australian Ambassador, turned over to the solar grandmother community of Bamban, Tarlac, the Rural Electrificaion Workshop, funded by the Australian government.
“Tanging Tanglaw: Turning IP Grandmothers into Solar Engineers” is a project of the Diwata: Women in Resource Development, Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association and the Land Rover Club of the Philippines in cooperation with the Government of India and the Barefoot College of Tilonia, India.
